Dated December 22, 1887

This quilt was given to maker's daughter as a wedding gift in 1906 and presented in a pillowcase on which the maker had written "When not in use, keep in this slip and quilt will not turn yellow."

This lovely 4 block quilt is unusual in two ways. It has wool batting and two colors of thread are used for the intricate quilting-green and off white.

This quilt was made by Salina Lucinda Felder Reeves (1860-1941) who also made the "Coxcombs and Currants" in 1886 which indicates that she quilted for at least 45 years.

Featured on the cover of "Mississippi Quilts," this quilt is called "Mariner's Compass" by the current owner an her ancestors. Pieced for her own wedding at age 16 by Annie M. Tucker, it was quilted by Annie, her mother and grandmother.

This quilt contains many different types of needlework skills--applique, reverse applique, and piecing--but the quilt is where the maker really expressed herself.

Circa 1925

Called "Sunset" by the owner, this quilt is finished in an unusual fashion. One side is done in a knife edged finish; the front is brought to the back on another side; and a single fold binding is applied to the other two sides.

Because this was one of the team's favorite quilts, it is not surprising that the Paducah Rotary Club chose it for the motif on the 2002 Antique Show commemorative pin. The current owner still resides on the farm in Lauderdale county where the quilt was made.
