The detail on this quilt is outstanding! We know that the main medallions (the four circles) are not medallions at all but are actually representations of the medicine wheel. The small lines that intersect the circle are the various weeks and days that a Native American would stand and offer their prayers according to the medicine wheel use. Sort of like a Zodiac but without all of the symbols and such.
I am not certain what the symbol means in the center. It could be a cradle board, but there is no baby in the cradle board.
